Deliverin' the Papers, and the Goods

Posted by Ned Lannamann on Wed, Oct 15, 2008 at 3:17 PM

Soul is back. And not just Sharon Jones. Here's a white guy from Boston called Eli "Paperboy" Reed. His band, the True Loves, do soul-by-numbers like it's 1966.

That's not a bad thing.

The picture quality above is not great, but the sound's fine, and you can hear the band's energy, and let's face it: Paperboy can sing. Fellow End Hits blogger Andrew R Tonry put it perfectly: "May not sound super hot on record, but live I bet it rips..."

So yeah, I'm gonna check it out tonight. I don't think it'll be life changing by any means, but I'm sure it'll be hotter than a soul-shakin' pot bubbling over, and bigger than a jumbo-sized Sunday paper filled with circulars and comics. In other words, fun.

Right?
