It's Kinks Week here on End Hits!
To coincide with Ray Davies' performance at the Crystal Ballroom this Friday, we'll be posting all week long about the legendary British band. They started off as the grimiest, heaviest band of the British Invasion, but soon moved to more pastoral, introspective material even as the psychedelic era celebrated indulgence and excess. The Kinks never paid much attention to the mainstream; they scored a few hits here and there, and had a comeback in the US in the late '70s, but usually just carved their own path with the songwriting genius of Ray Davies leading the way.
To kick things off, here's the song that started it all.
