Bark Hide and Horn Travel Down National Road

Bark Hide and Horn have a new recording, National Road, and it's pretty much all I want to listen to these days. Gloriously assembled, the record channels the charm of the early days of Elephant Six pop music, but with less over-the-top flair and sans the alter to Brian Wilson. Instead National Road is dusty and barren, yet still bright enough of an album to garner repeat listens.

"Treasure Of The Everglades," the song below, is a lovely little number (One assumes the band, in the above picture, is searching for said treasure. But why the arm sling? And where are their metal detectors? They'll never find Ponce de Leon's gold without one.) with the sincere question of "would you let me into your life, darling?"

The band's CD release show is the 16th of August at Holocene and the band has a special request for would-be attendees:

We're asking that people come in costumes, either dressed up as animals or '60s-era naturalists/explorers. And there will be a special prize for best costume.

Well, that's a new one. If things take a turn for the worse during the show, will the animals be "hunted" by the explorers? Or vice versa? I can't wait to see that brawl break out.
