The New Song from School of Seven Bells Is Gorgeous

You might remember Benjamin Curtis left Secret Machines last year to start a new band. That band is School of Seven Bells, and they memorably collaborated with Prefuse 73 for the weird, woozy "Class of 73 Bells" remix from last year. While Secret Machines had moments of transplendance, I always thought their synth-rock was slightly contrived and a bit too ham-fisted. School of Seven Bells, on the other hand, is gauzy and feminine, perhaps due to the vocal from sisters Alejandra and Claudia Deheza.

In advance of the forthcoming Alpinism album, the new School of Seven Bells single was released today on Ghostly International, and goddamn if it isn't miraculously beautiful. Like a haunting, half-remembered dream, it touches upon deep, almost carnal, emotions, flickering like candlelight and prickling the parts of your brain that don't get used enough.

Half Asleep - School Of Seven Bells

Appropriately, School of Seven Bells opens for fellow dream-synthers M83 on their upcoming tour, which visits Portland on November 27 (Thanksgiving) at the Doug Fir.
