Happy Birthday Mark Sandman!

Our birthday march continues, and today we want to pay our respect to Mark Sandman, former frontman for Morphine. He would have been 56 today.

Sandman was the face--and the velvety smooth voice--of Morphine, a Boston trio who someone managed a fair amount of crossover success with their unorthodox sax-heavy, guitar-free, sound. To this day, 1993's Cure for Pain is pretty untouchable, a rare mature recording (with plenty of "adult themes) in an era of bratty '90s alt-rock. The band blazed through the decade and garnered a devoted fanbase the world over, until 1999, when Sandman suffered a heart attack and died onstage in Italy, he was 46.

If you think that is tragic, today is also the birthday of Shawn Crahan.
Who?
The clown from Slipknot, that's who.
