Beach Boys Rehearsals

Last week the always-excellent Aquarium Drunkard posted 8 rare Beach Boys rehearsal tracks from 1967. Most super Brian Wilson fans (Is there such thing as a super Mike Love fan? Other than Mike Love himself?) probably have these songs already, but if you do not, please download them before they disappear into the vast abyss of the internet.

Below, is their rehearsal version of "Help Me Rhonda," a song that was right up there with "Kokomo" on my personal list of the worst Beach Boys songs ever. But this more subtle, and significantly looser (you can hear the band struggling to keep their composure and not laugh during the recording), version changes all that. I'm now a fan of "Help Me Rhonda." Who knew?

If you like "Help Me Rhonda" there is a recording out there that captures Murry "Dad" Wilson trying to take over the recording session of said song. Brian gets pretty frustrated. I found this video someone made using the very same recording. O yeah, I think Murry may have been drinking that day.
