Another week, another Mercury music section to read while you name your baby Sarah McCain Palin. Trust me, as someone who was born Walter Mondale Carter, you'll never regret that one bit. Nope.

Welcome back, ladies. The All Girl Summer Fun Band make their glorious return, just in time for the weather to turn, and for the concept of "summer" and "fun" to seem foreign and distant. Oh well.
LISTEN:

All Girl Summer Fun Band - "This Will Never End"

One of the truly ironic characters within independent music, Slim Moon, talks about his early days, leaving the label, and his upcoming reading for the Back Fence PDX series.

Fact: Boy Eats Drum Machine hearts drums. I mean, it's pretty evident considering the moniker of Jon Ragel's solo pop vehicle, but just in case you were curious, the dude loves him some drums.
LISTEN:

Boy Eats Drum Machine - "la la la la LA!"

The kicker don't lie: "The Rumble Strips create a sound that belongs to no one else." No one. Don't you forget it.
LISTEN:

Rumple Strips - "Clouds"

Oh, but there's more! This week we introduced our brand new monthly hiphop column--Rip City: Rap City--which is devoted to local emcee Sleepyhead. Meanwhile, I rant like a fanboy about former Portlander John Darnielle and the Mountain Goats.
LISTEN:

Sleepyhead - "Rip Van Winkle"

LISTEN:

The Mountain Goats - "Pinklon"
