John Lennon. 28 Years Later.

Today is the 28th anniversary of the death of John Lennon, who was murdered outside his apartment by a man later played in a film by a tubby Jared Leto. Life can be so cruel sometimes.

It's odd how what happened on that night outside the Dakota changed rock music in so many ways—adding the assassination to the various list of rock star deaths—and cementing Lennon's legacy as that of an artist whose work was never truly finished. Granted, it's easy to speculate that Lennon was primed to have a terrible '80s (he barely lived into the decade and already was incorporating steel drums and a feathered mullet), but even considering how well documented his life (and death) have become, it doesn't erase the senseless tragedy of it all.
