SXSW: Now with More Portland Bands Than Ever

27.

That is the number of local bands invited to perform at this year's SXSW festivities. The annual tribute to tinnitus and tacos (for breakfast!) is known for its countless showcases of hyped-up bands, and is sort of like an indie rock Mardi Gras, but with badges instead of beads.

What's that? You want to see the complete list of local bands performing?
Blind Pilot / Blitzen Trapper / Blue Giant / Braille / Peter Broderick / The Chicharones / The Dead Trees / Laura Gibson / Hockey / Horse Feathers / Jaguar Love / Loch Lomond / Mirah / Tara Jane O'Neil / Parenthetical Girls / Red Fang / The Shaky Hands / Shelley Short / The Slants / Sleep / Starfucker / Thee Headliners / The Thermals / Viva Voce / M.Ward / What’s Up? / YACHT

As far as we know, this is the most Portland-centric the festival has ever been. As regional performers go, Portland's total number tops our basketball-less friends to the north (23 from Seattle), but fails when compared to our burrito-superior pals to the south (40 from San Francisco). Stay tuned for more SXSW news, including all the juicy details on a Mercury-sponsored Portland showcase.
