North Carolinian Stuart McLamb recorded a series of lo-fi pop songs by his lonesome after he was kicked out of his band for trashing their practice space. Those recordings became the Love Language's self-titled debut album, which has just been released by Portland's own Bladen County Records. It's pretty marvelous stuff, both sloppy and pretty, overloaded with melody, and just hinting at the blurred edges of McLamb's breakdown that preceded the record. (If reports are to be believed, he went on a bender and woke up handcuffed in his friend's apartment with no idea how he got there.) McLamb has now expanded the Love Language to a seven-piece touring band to perform the tunes in a live setting. Take a listen to a song from the record:

The Love Language - "Providence"
If you like what you hear, you can stream their entire album right now on RCRDLBL. Also, check out their MySpace page for a killer, bizarro cover of Ricky Nelson's "Hello Mary Lou" that reminds me of Roy Wood's hairier moments.
The Love Language plays tomorrow night at the Doug Fir (830 E Burnside), opening for Headlights, 9 pm, $10
