Win Tickets to see Bloc Party and Menomena

Much like Omar Little, we just could not stay away from the game. (The, um, ticket giveaway game that is.) So that's why we are parting with two pairs of tickets to see Bloc Party and Menomena perform at the Roseland Theater this Wednesday, April 22nd.

There is nothing left to say about Menomena, other than the fact that they are Portland's best band (I will defend that statement to my death), and really need to release a new record. Soon. Meanwhile, Bloc Party are the uber-hip British quartet touring in support of last year's Intimacy. They like this paper so much, they even titled their new single after us. Thanks lads!

LISTEN:

Bloc Party - "Mercury"

To win these tickets, just comment below on why you think you deserve to go to this show. The best two comments—by today at 5pm—will win a pair of tickets and drunken conversation with me about Omar Little. Or you can just take the tickets.

I wouldn't admit this to just anybody, but one of my best features is my ability to conversate (sic) drunkenly. Full of exuberance, lacking pretense and totally focused on the topic at hand.
Also, what I would admit to everybody is my love for Menomena. The memories of them performing Shirt at PDX POP now! brought me back from a tropical paradise, of which I'd sworn never to return in case the opportunity to see them again presented itself. Now the time is at hand. Please help fulfill my destiny.
Love always,
amh

i haven't won a free car. but i've tried.
i haven't even won a free pizza at my weekly pie shop.
it'd be cool to win anything, much less tickets to this show!

I should win the tix because, I just moved here from Queens NYC, I've never seen either band, need I say more? I didn't think so.

Because I went through 27 hours of hard labor with no medication only to be told that I would have to undergo an emergency c-section, and to top it all off I have had a leach in the shape of a tiny person attached to my tit for three months straight! I would like my tits to myself for the evening!

I'd like to share the experience with my little sister who moved to Portland in the Fall but hasn't been to any shows yet.

My best friend, a fan of Bloc Party, is moving from Eugene to Alaska in two weeks for some long many months and he's coming up for this show. I'm catching up with him before the show, but it would be even awesomer to be able to go with him.

Plus, Menomena. I have yet to see them live.

My roommate (who may or may not be Molly "the intern" Georgetta) is in London right now and I need to feel closer to her by listening to some accents and making people laugh by saying "Isn't it odd that my fanny (pack) is outside my pants?" Mwahahahahaha. Also the chance to get to speak to THE Ezra Caraeff makes need a valium to calm down.

The one time I shared a beer with Brent he was the nicest guy, but I’d yet to hear Menomena and thus was ignorant of how fawning I should have been of his music output. Now “Friend & Foe” is in constant rotation on my Ipod and if I get to see them live for the first time ever… oh, will I fawn.

The only other tickets I've won were to the premier of Cool As Ice (http://www.imdb.com/title/tt0101615/), when I was 12.

1. I suck you off! wait, no, I'm having second thoughts...

2. I cry myself to sleep every time I can't go see Menomena

3. It would convince my girlfriend I'm not totally useless

4. I make all my friends listen to Bloc-Party. constantly.

5. I heard that if you listen to both bands at the same time it reduces global warming

I'm no square. I see your offer of drunkversation, and raise you unlimited drunken IMing about which of Omar's boyfriends was your favorite...during the show.

Fucking-a mom! Would you quit already with the leach comments! You know, it's not all rainbows and teddy bears over here in the Pez household. Besides having to stomach your warm, bland, nasty-ass titty milk, I'm stuck here watching hour after hour of Days of our Life and General Hospital. If anyone deserves a night out, it's this fucking 'leach'!

We just found a new place to live and need to celebrate with loud rock music and many, many beers, though not necessarily in that order. It's 5 o'clock somewhere, right?

Q: If you love Bloc Party and Menomena so much why don't you already have tickets?
A: I don't have tickets because I decided to stop listening to Fox pundits and start saving my money. If I don't have to pay for tickets then I can spend that money on booze. I believe that is what they call a "compromise" in the world of financials.

Q: Do you even know who these bands are?
A: Yes. I wear clothes that don't match by fashion standards and I have a booty made for dancing. I will fight my way to the front jumping with my hands in the air and singing all the songs. It will become my own personal Rockbox.

Q: We need more...
A: I have a great smile.

Ever since I quit my job at Wieden+Kennedy I've become a social outcast. My taste in music has suffered, my fashion sense is at least a season behind, my credit card balances are hopelessly low and for the first time in years I actually wake up every morning looking forward to what life has to offer me. As a result I've ended up in a relationship with someone who makes me feel better than half and eight ball and a six pack of Heineken. I think she's really dig it, while I'll have to pretend to be pissed off not to be back stage.

because i'm a broke-assed public servant. a steward of our environment. i'm out there every day making sure that the air you breathe in our great state is not going to poison you. or at least not going to make your asthma kick your ass. and in a time when our state's budget is in the crapper, i can't afford to go out and buy tickets to awesome rock shows in hopes that maybe, just maybe, i won't get laid off when the legislature passes the budget for the next biennium. plus i reallly like both bands. so there.

A) because Memonema IS the best live band in Portland, and they will fend off the rain clouds for another sweet sunny day!

B) because if I win these tickets, as a demonstration of my gratitude, I will rename my cat, Dr. Dog (who as it turns out, really wasn't that into her new name), "Menome-f***ing-Na."

...and C) because my heart skipped a beat and my knees went weak when you topped-off the ticket contest with the possibility of a conversation about my boy, Omar Little, yo!
