A Lovely Day in Liechtenstein

From Sweden, come Liechtenstein (confusing, I know), who have a debut 10-inch on its way in June. They just might be my favorite of this neo girl group lot—but that may also be because they do the most to work outside the confines of their niche (i.e. they often use—gasp!—minor chords). Witness the brilliant change in "Roses in the Park." Spring has sprung! Sort of.

"Roses in the Park" - from Liechtenstein's forthcoming release Survival Strategies in a Modern World (out June 10)

"Roses in the Park" is on my shortlist for song of the year, for sure.

Also, Black Tambourine haven't been a band for almost two decades. And unless I'm not up to speed on my blog news, I don't think either Dum Dum Girls nor Shannon & the Clams are on Slumberland. But I could be totally wrong on that.

Does this mean it's time for TacocaT to blow the hell up, too?

Would it at all redeem me if I said I'm just making sure folks are paying attention? I didn't think so. Thanks for the heads up, though.

So, if you could, please explain to me why done to death crap like this is any better, or "matters" more than done to death crap like Green Day?

I mean, other than the fact that they're cute Swedish chicks.

@jake

If you're referring to my Green Day post from Sunday, then I need to stress my problem with them isn't that they're unoriginal but that they're muddle-headed wanna-be protest singers. So your Liechtenstein comparison doesn't really work.

But if you want me to defend Liechtenstein's own originality, I can't do that either. I like them because they remind me of several other bands I like, but they have slightly more complex background vocals. Not groundbreaking, I agree. But they're also not getting 1000-word features in the Sunday Times. So I figured I'd toss them 60 words at End Hits. Apologies you didn't like the song.

Sorry--actually, I kinda did like the song, and I'm no big fan of Green Day, just misunderstood where you were coming from.

Carry on.
