Jesse Sandoval, seen here poorly photoshopped in front of taco truck that is not his.
After being unfairly kicked to the curb by frontman James Mercer—an "aesthetic decision," whatever that means—former Shins drummer Jesse Sandoval has started a new venture: taco cart!
The only thing more Portland-centric than indie rock is a food cart, and Sandoval's will be located at 3rd and SW Stark under the name Nuevo Mexico. (I assume that is named in honor of his home state, New Mexico.) The End Hits' Burrito Review Team will be out in full force for next week's opening with all the gooey, melty details.

This is great news. I've become a little disenchanted lately with my regular burrito cart. Their beans seemed to have changed flavor. They've become less flavorful, basically, is what I'm trying to say.
The cart on SE 82nd & Holgate is my new fav. Their ceviche, fish tacos, and shrimp tacos are the best & most authentic Jalisco-style food I've had since I lived in Oakland and haunted the Fruitvale taco trucks on a regular basis.
Great... the Shin's drummer is opening up a cart which probably had a lot to do with his demise as a drummer in the band.
...and then, this summer Potato Champion and Nuevo Mexico will have a kickball game to jostle for indie-rock related food cart supremacy.
It's actually not a "taco cart" since he's not selling tacos. He's selling New Mexican-style burritos, stuffed sopapillas, carne adovada. In other words, not the crap that would be sold in the poorly photoshopped picture above.
