By now you should be quite familiar with the gorgeous sounds of The Portland Cello Project, so it's no surprise to you that this ensemble has a new record on the way. Out today courtesy of Kill Rock Stars, The Thao And Justin Power Sessions is the finest work of the PCP, as it balances their swelling arrangements with a pair of talented voices: Local gent Justin Power, and Thao Nguyen (Thao & The Get Down, Stay Down). Want to have a listen?

LISTEN:

The Portland Cello Project - "Tallymarks" (Featuring Thao)

You're totally right, that really is a great song.
To celebrate the release of this record, the PCP (plus Justin Power and Thao) will be throwing a "CD Release Extravaganza" at the Aladdin Theater this Friday night, and we want you and a guest to go for free. But that's not all, we'll also toss in a copy of the The Thao And Justin Power Sessions CD as well. That way you can learn all the songs in advance and scream out the words loudly while the band performs. (Please do not do this.)

To get these tickets, and your copy of the CD, just comment below with why you deserve to be the glorious winner. The best comment by tomorrow (Wednesday) at noon will be the winner of the two tickets. Good luck.

If I won these tickets I could finally make my proposal to the Cello Project to court Bill Cosby as their spokesperson, much as he hawked Jell-O Pudding in the nineties. Cello, Jell-O—it all sounds the same in his warm warble.

This is a very stupid and desperate reason… take pity on me? With tickets?

I am actually shaped like a cello, and I have bows for arms. It's really hard for me to stand up on my one super pointy leg. These tickets would allow me to rest my weary wood and feel like a normal person for an evening. And the CD would drown out the sound of my sobs at night.

my husband and I are coming to pdx for our anniversary this weekend and we're poor (working PT in rural idaho, squatting on my parents' land), so it would be nice to get tickets for free to something this cool. big fan of the PCP.

If I had actually kept up with playing the cello, I could be playing with them instead of pathetically begging for free tickets. Show pity on my poor choices of youth.

I hate to admit it, but as a Portland native and avid local music supporter, I have never seen the Portland Cello Project! My last musical outing that revolved around the cello was to see Apocalyptica, a Finnish 5 piece metal band that plays Metallica covers and original metal music on cellos (plus one drummer).

Take pity on my poor ears. You wouldn't want that to be my lasting impression of the awesomeness that is the cello, now would you? :)

Last time I saw PCP we were filming them - http://vimeo.com/2714300 - sure would be nice to see them from a relaxing, free seat this time. Also, I have a baby, a very cute one, that will be coming with me.

Well, my girlfriend was in a shitty car accident about a month ago and due to some inner-ear damage she may have to do up to 6 weeks of bed rest to heal. She hasn't worked since the accident and her birthday is this Sunday and I thought this could be a fun concert to talk about while she's in bed for A MONTH AND A HALF... she used to place cello so this could be fun for her... thanks.

Wow! Those are some good arguments for free tickets. I'm a cello player who has never seen PCP and think it would be cool to win something! Thanks much!

I just really enjoy their music. I want to attend, and get lost in the music.

This is the first I have ever heard of PCP (the band) and from the sample you offered up, I'd like to hear more. Also, my fiance leaves for China on Friday. She'll be gone for two weeks and it's already hurting my heart. While she's sniffing shoe glue and taking in Chinese tanneries I'll be stuck alone, drowning my sorry sad and lonely life in a mickey's 40 (or three), albeit close to the Aladdin. If I had these tickets I would change this future. I will only drink one green bottle of fun and will offer the other to a stranger who I have met on the street. The third 40oz will go to a bum. I will then invite said stranger to the PCP (band) show with me. It would be awesome.

In Simple List Format, below are the reasons why I must become the Glorious Winner.

1. I must be able to learn all the songs in advance and scream out the words loudly while the band performs. (I MUST)

2. I do not loose.

3. Before he was hung by a troupe of NEFARIOUS FLYING MONKEYS, David Carradine called me, demanding my attendance as his dying wish.

4. I must impress my girlfriend, because IT IS HARD TO KEEP IN TODAY'S ECONOMY.

My dreams of string instrument fame were dashed, when after several months of lessons, my wincing parents removed hands from their ears and told me that they couldn't handle it anymore. My practicing sounded like a cat undergoing torture. I was 8.

This childhood trauma would be eased by hearing the sweet sounds of PCP Friday night...

My husband and I have been religiously attending PCP shows since we moved to Portland 3 years ago - in fact, it was the first concert we saw together here. I dropped him off at the airport at 4:30am this morning so that he can spend the week at the St. Louis music festival where we'd met 12 years ago - solo, since I can't get away from work. If you would award me the two prize tickets, I could take a friend and turn them on to PCP, and we could have WAY more fun than he'll be having and really stick it to him. Thanks!
