Dorky, Bearded Music Writer Tells Us How Obsolete We Are

Posted by Ezra Ace Caraeff on Wed, Jun 17, 2009 at 2:16 PM

By the time you finish watching this video, music critics like myself will probably be out of a job. This entertaining clip of critic Christopher R. Weingarten gives a pretty accurate rundown—"crowdsourcing kills art"—of the (sad?) state of music journalism in the Twitter age.

If you need me, I'll be updating my resume and sobbing into my CD promo pile.

Dead On.
Many in similar industries have known this for awhile - it's not just ivory tower going-out-of-business news paper people losing their jobs, lamenting that people should listen to them.
The problem is - a generation raised on 'everything's free' and thinks because anyone CAN make music (or opinions) everyone SHOULD.
The same reason communism on a mass scale is doomed to failure - everything settles to the lowest common denominator.
But at least he knows he'll be looking for a new job.

why don't you ever have more comments on your stories? i think the comments need to be added as part of the story in the main post stream, not just the post link. make the conversation active, so people can actually read the responses. i always feel like this blog is talkign to an empty audience, yet i'm pretty certain it isn't. i don'[t think newspapers should have immediately accesible comments (nor comments in general), but i do think you guys (since you already allow comments) should have them attached to the story. seriously, this is one place it makes sense,.

ie don;t make it appear in some hard-to-find pop-up window unless you click some link. that really stinks and kills a fun community aspect of it. serrruiously

That's just the way this site is designed. But here's a tip: If you click the "Permalink" option, you can read the story and the comments on the same page.

Thanks for reading and commenting, serrruiously.
