Win Tickets to Azure Ray!

The ticket giveaway madness continues! If our other contest wasn't your cup of tea—surprisingly, militant hiphop isn't for everyone—then you'll want to win a pair of tickets to witness to gorgeous music of Azure Ray. Now back together, the duo will perform their first Portland show in about five years this Friday (that's tomorrow) at Mississippi Studios.

Here's the preview from this week's paper:

AZURE RAY, WHITE HINTERLAND
(Mississippi Studios, 3939 N Mississippi) Splitting at the most inopportune moment—following the release of their stellar Hold on Love recording, and shortly after working with Moby (back when he was still relevant, or at least still lingering in the public consciousness)—the return of Azure Ray is a welcome surprise. The duo of Maria Taylor and Orenda Fink were the stable anchor to the Midwest emo theatrics of the Saddle Creek scene. They lacked the gushing diary prose and navel-gazing of their label brethren, instead crafting an opulent and patient sound of intertwined voices that seldom rose above a delicate whisper. With no new record to sling—although one is supposedly in the works—tonight's show will be a warm-up for the duo's welcome return.

To win these tickets, just comment below and explain why you deserve to attend this show for free. The best comment by tomorrow at noon will be the lucky winner. Good luck.

I've never heard of these people before. But if they're as hot in real life as they are in that photo, I want to go. I'll hit on them awkwardly until they walk away.

Then I'll write a sappy emo-twee song about how I'm not good enough to deserve their love. The song will be klezmer-tinged.

Well, I can tell you why you SHOULDN'T give me free tickets... because I will probably pass out from heart failure, as Azure Ray is singing thus increasing the swelling of my heart until it just can't take. Therefore, you will have to tend to the girl in the crowd who has crashed to the floor.

Are you prepared for that? If you are, then I would be MORE than honored to enact this scenario (for those tickets).

I was 16 living in Utah when I first had the chance to see Azure Ray. They were my favorite band! I was so excited! They were opening for Moby. I went. I bought tickets for all my friends. We all drove to Salt Lake City in a big van. I still have the XS Azure Ray shirt I bought before the concert. It was going to amazing.

And then it all went to hell... The "club" was actually a building with no roof. It threatened to rain. They cancelled both opening acts for fear of death by electrocution. At the last minute the skies opened up and all I got was Moby. 2 hours of Moby.

Fuckin' Moby, man.

I still have the shirt, I still love Azure Ray. Gimme those tickets.

It's my birthday today! And I love Azure Ray more than anything! And I have to spend my actual birthday writing a paper and working, and then I have to work all day Saturday, so I deserve to spend tomorrow doing something awesome.

1) My love for Azure Ray is massive.
2) It's my birthday today, and I am spending it working and writing a paper. Then I work all day tomorrow, and then I work all day Saturday...I deserve to do something fun tomorrow night! I'm too broke to buy tickets myself because all my relatives who used to give me birthday money are dead now.

I deserve to attend this show because I've greatly appreciated Orenda's and Maria's music for a number of years and I have never seen them. Plus the VA won't treat my chronic depression or give me earplugs for the tinnitus that rings in my head thanks to a few years of service. In addition my now ex girlfriend has proven that she's truly a heartless wench and I've been depressed most of the week. This show would cap it all off. Thanks very much

Azure Ray are so freaking adorable they make my eyes bleed. And since my eyes haven't bled for awhile, I'd love to spend an unexpected Friday night off from working at the mental hospital to take an opportunity for exsanguination.
