Hark! Over the past few months we've kept you updated on every single morsel, tour date, video, and drunken Tweet from ye olde Decemberists. Now we are giving away a few pairs of tickets to their Sunday, July 19th show at Edgefield. The band's two night stand in Troutdale—with stellar openers Andrew Bird and Blind Pilot—will be their first hometown performance in support of The Hazards Of Love.

To win, just comment below and explain why you should attend this show. The best posts by Wednesday at 5pm will win a pair of tickets. Good luck.

I would love to win a pair of Decemberists tickets so that I may do the only acceptable thing one can do with Decemberists tickets: wipe my ass.

Well...I've already seen them two times. Third time's a charm?

I would like to win the tickets to save them from a close encounter with Kyle's ass. Plus I think I would really enjoy the show.

This sounds like more fun than I have had in a while. I would really like to go to this show with my guy (even though my husband made fun of them on the Colbert report). I still think they're good.

Hey Mercury,
I think you should kick those tickets my way. I wouldn't say I especially "deserve" them but I do love those guys and I did submit some of your blog posts to Digg once... wink. wink. I've been in Portland for about 7-8 months and have yet to see a quality Portland band play a show. You know as well as I do that these guys are the ones that will sufficiently blow my mind. Plus, I can't afford to go on my own. C'mon Mercury, if you love me let go...

well they are for my daughter
whom is grounded almost right up until the day of the show.

and her and I were over at the the new cd signing over at Music Millenium, and we waited in line for 10- 20 minutes as the new cd was playing and we get to the front of the line and Marina says to Colin.

My daughter "Colin- Whats this crap thats playing?"
Mr Meloy -"our new album"
My daughter - "Indeed"

Something tells me Colin would love to see Marina at the show?

I would sell the pair of tickets and give the money to people who really deserve it. Or buy beer. Or, oh wait, it's coming to right now! I might sell one ticket and buy Kyle some tp, and use the other ticket to actually go, solo-like. Actually, screw the tp, the proceeds from the other ticket would be beer money. Unless, wait, if I don't sell it, I could find someone to go with! Nah, that's ridiculous. Sell one ticket, buy beer, listen music, be happy. The End.

I've spent ten months at home unable to get out for anything, enjoying the company of my newborn babygirl. We're ready to get back out and do something adult, and not miss the great summer weather in Oregon, and not miss a combo like the Decemberists WITH Andrew Bird. We NEED this.

My best friend from college -- who has had a genuinely crappy few years (miscarriage, divorce, familial cancer scares, brother committed suicide) -- is visiting this week to spend a little time away from his everyday life, and so I can check in with him and make sure that he's still keeping his shit together. I haven't gotten to spend more than a day with him in nearly fifteen years.

He loves the Decemberists. I love the Decemberists. We'd both love to go to the show. But I'm broke as hell (how is it I have two jobs and still only barely scrape half-time?), and he's spending what he had to get here for the week. There's no way we're going on our own dime, not this year.

We'll have fun together either way -- we always do, and he's one of those rare friends you find in a lifetime if you're lucky, who's still around and still your friend regardless of time and distance and what happens inbetween brief visits. But still, given our common fandom, it would be a beautiful thing to go together.

Oh, also, I adore Blind Pilot. Does that help?

well, here it is. Being that it is literally across the street from my moms apartment and she really can't drive anymore due to the meds she is on, this would be most convienant for her when i ask her to join me IF i were to win. Im pretty sure she also hasn't seen a show since 1970 and edgefield is way relaxing for old folk and she could handle it.If in fact my mother is too ill to attend my brother who is newly 21 would most likely be joining me because he too lives across the street from there.

SOMEONE is going with me. IF i win the tickets and I hope it's mom. ;)

I'd like to go to the show because Sunday (7/19) is my wife's birthday and Thursday (7/16) is our eight-year anniversary, and I would love to surprise her with a trip to Edgefield to see one of her favorite bands. (None of that sentence is a lie. Sunday is really her birthday, Thursday is really our ann'y, and Colin and company is really one of her favorite bands. She lived in Missoula in the mid- to late-90s and used to actually see Tarkio at Jay's Upstairs quite often. Winning those tickets would just be too perfect, and much appreciated.)

I'd like the tickets cause I love them and have never seen them live and I'm one of the unemployed who can't afford to do much of anything these days, and it would be a real treat to see them.

Also, my name is Kyle and I'd put them to better use than the first Kyle.

If I had Decemberists tickets, I could go to the show. I might meet a similiar minded fellow who would take me out to coffee, and later confess that he has a trust fund. We would buy an RV and travel the country together. I would leave him at a gas station in Oklahoma. I would come back to Portland and get on my knees, thanking you, Mercury, for making my dreams come true.

I saw Colin in the Hawthorne Fred Meyer about two months ago, and I did not pester him, ask him for an autograph, take a photo, etc. That kind of restraint deserves tickets (I hope).

Well. Although I am an avid fan
Of The Decemberists, that wonderful Portland band
I have been in a different state all summer
Which has proved to be quite a bummer
Because there is no rival to Portland’s music scene
Other cities’ concert line-ups are pretty lean
But! I’ll be in Portland for just this one night!
And would be interested to see a Blind Pilot take flight
Hopefully he doesn’t crash into an Andrew Bird
It’d be like that TSA scandal all over again – word
So if you give me the tickets I would sing and dance
And probably speak in rhyme if you gave me the chance
I’ll mouth all the words along with Colin Meloy
I have a feeling this will be OH such a joy!

Nothing better than a good Emo concert in summer while sipping on Rubenator beer, and saying to my country/rap loving fiancé, ‘See, not all the music I listen to makes me want to slit my precious wrists”. He could really use the culture exposure… Plus, planning on going anyhow, and am equally excited about seeing Blind Pilot and Andrew Bird although, the Decemberists are nearly cult classics now, right? Also, I could use the money to save the rain forest, fix my car or buy more delicious Mcmenamin’s beer.

Plus i might get some ass since my Lady will be so stoked that i finally went with here to a concert. She Has been talking about this for a while so I'm exited to see what the hype is all about.

The thing is, I live in Tennessee and have no idea what would make a good Emo
concert... nor have I had the pleasure of drinking a Rubenator... but there
is this girl... woman, really... and not only is she the love of my life,
but she is the only person who can do the genius of Blind Pilot, Andrew
Bird and the Decemberists justice as she attempts to expose me to why the
north-eastern part of the United States is not only amazing, but clearly
also brews the best beer... plus... showing up in Portlandish, sweeping her
off of her feet and taking her to the concert would blow her away and she
may just finally admit that she can't live any longer without me in her
life...

I had a dog named Skipper, a German shepard mix. He used to howl to the tune of Odalisque. We had to put him down after he broke his hip. A sad day. That night we took Skipper to Two Plumb Park and secretly buried him beneath one of his favorite grassy spots. His memory has a soundtrack - one that lingers with the melodically comforting sounds of The Decemberists.

So I met a Decemberist at a party in high school, maybe five years ago. When he told me he was in a band called The Decemberists, I was like 'Oh ya, wow. Cool' (Inner Monologue: That's a stupid fucking name.). Back to my drink. Turns out, they totally rock and I'm a jackass. Not sure why that means I should win, but there's a reason in there somewhere.
