Remember when we used to do this music section roundup every Thursday, but then we suddenly stopped? Well, we're back. I promise we will post a "This Week's Mercury Music Section" every single week until the end of time itself... or until when we get distracted by something bright and shiny. Jangling car keys usually do the trick.

In the opinion of this humble/drunk writer, Three Mile Pilot are one of the greatest bands in the history of independent music—yeah, you heard me—and after nearly a decade of side projects (Pinback, Black Heart Procession), they have returned. If you are not excited, you are dead inside.
LISTEN:

Three Mile Pilot - "Circumcised"

An interview with the Decemberists. It's about time someone covered this band! Hate all you want on their fancy book learnin' ways, and overly-ambitious recordings, they still have a lot of life left in them. [Editor's note: It was significantly harder to get an interview with Colin Meloy than it was getting time with Snoop Dogg. Seriously.]
LISTEN:

The Decemberists - "The Rake's Song"

- - - - -

Pink Mountain—they will punch you in the throat if you call them Pink Mountaintops—features Sam Coomes of Quasi and are the greatest proggy supergroup since Asia (a band so fantastic, they named a continent after them).
LISTEN:

Pink Mountain - "Over the Rainbow, Somewhere"

- - - - -

Say what you will about the (tired) music of Snoop Dogg, the man has lived a ridiculous life that has featured everything from appearances in It's a Very Merry Muppet Christmas Movie, allegedly shooting someone in a drive-by, and inventing marijuana. I might have the fact check that last one.

Snoop Dogg - "Doggy Dogg World"
