Sticker Shock?

Posted by Andrew R Tonry on Mon, Jul 20, 2009 at 5:04 PM

Info graphic spotted in the NY Times Magazine:

"71% of all music sales last year were individual digital tracks."

At this time I am processing and have no comment. You?

Also, I think it'd be interesting (though perhaps impossible) to gague the number of illegal vs. paid song downloads. I'm guessing full albums are more often downloaded illegally (only somewhat because of price) though songs are easy to get by themselves too...

Hmm... the ol' brain is crankin' away...

My theory is most folks download a track of something they like, and if they like it enough they buy the record.
An acceptable model for me, there's no way in he[[ I want my music library to be all digital, but it's good for checking new things out.

i got a feeling they mean 71% of DIGITAL MUSIC sales. this report says digital sales account for only 20% of all music sales. http://www.ifpi.org/content/library/DMR200…

I quoted the info graphic text verbatim. There is no annotation.

I don't know where to find it on the site so check the magazine. It was tucked into a story about multi-tasking and the new politics on page 11.
