Dimebag Darrell, 1966-2004

Posted by Mark Lore on Tue, Dec 8, 2009 at 4:28 PM

December 8th is not a happy date. Of course we all know John Lennon was murdered on this date, 29 years ago outside the Dakota building by a deranged fan. He was 40. And it was five years ago that Pantera guitarist Dimebag Darrell Abbott was murdered—also by a deranged fan—during a show in Columbus, Ohio while performing with his band DamagePlan.

Not much to say, really—both were tragedies that affected a lot of people in different ways. While Lennon's assassination still resonates with millions, the death of Dimebag Darrell at the age of 38 remains a huge loss for anyone who's followed metal in any capacity.

Well, I feel crappy... who needs a Black Tooth Grin?
