Into the Woods Episode #1

Posted by Ezra Ace Caraeff on Fri, Jan 29, 2010 at 6:12 AM

Previously we ran a teaser for the Into the Woods debut episode (band + fans + live show + nature = fun), and now the entire thing is online. Visually, it's an excellent collection of clips that chronicles Wampire and company heading out to Government Camp (they buy soup on the way), and then performing live in a wood-paneled cabin in the snow. Unlike their peers (The Penny Jam, Blogotheque's Take Away Shows), Into the Woods feels downright epic, clocking in at nearly 18 minutes, and thus raising the bar for these sort of video concepts. I'm definitely looking forward to seeing future episodes.

This looks, awesome, I previewed it and plan to watch it in full back at my house (not at work). I'm also really stoked on the other series' these guys are planning.

However, I have to mention this http://wistia.com/blog/does-length-matter-… -it's something that's been on my mind lately.

We worry about the content first and foremost. The tone of the piece couldn't have translated into two minutes. So if we have to sacrifice some hits to make an 18 minute piece than so what. We believe that web media is still unchartered and are reluctant to limit ourselves because of loose studies.

If the content isn't interesting and compelling, well then no one will watch it. The way I find the analysis useful, is that by understanding how online video is watched in general you can have better insight in to the relative performance of your content. This can help shape future episodes or versions to make them more punchy, engaging, and fun.

@Jordan, you're right... this is completely unchartered territory which is why we hope that this kind of data can be a good starting point to learn from.

I personally think it could of been much shorter. The shooting was well done and the music was good. But could you guys go any more over the top with all your hipster/portland cliches. I doubt it... I really don't think anyone needs 18 minutes of some drunk guy yelling/underage girl smoking and enough american apparel undies to make me sick. Except maybe the kids in the video who im sure love re-living the party over and over again. If the content is your most important goal as filmmakers, you may want to include some more controlled interviews or more insight on the band/film makers. I really dont need that much chili eating drunken flirting uber hip blunt smokin sesh footy. I'm not some internet troll..and im friends with renee/few others in the video. but im just being honest
