News This Week's Mercury Music Section

Another week, another Mercury music section to devour, just like Thom Yorke and a plate of soy chicken wings.

We are not shy in expressing our admiration for the mighty Gil Scott-Heron. Demons and all, Scott-Heron has given us a fine catalog of poetic expression—from smoldering '70s soul to his intensely personal comeback, I'm New Here—and it's nice to have him back creating music once again.

A decade of the Mercury, and finally our first article about someone in a turban. About damn time. But the legendary Dr. Lonnie Smith is about far more than just his stylish choice in headwear. The things that man does to a Hammond B3 organ should be a crime.

Sure, Charlotte Gainsbourg had a the coolest father on earth, is genetically blessed, has loads of celebrity friends, and is just infinitely cooler than you'll ever be. But... eh, I got nothing. She's better than all of us. Combed. Times two.
