M.I.A. Unveils New Track, "Born Free"

Posted by Brianne "the intern" Turner on Fri, Apr 23, 2010 at 11:33 AM

Oh, Mathangi Arulpragasam. For better or worse, you have my heart.

The artist better known as M.I.A. released her newest track, "Born Free," on the masses today, resulting in a few domain crashes due to the influx of M.I.A.heads clamoring for their MP3 fix. Co-written with Alan Vega of Suicide, it makes sense that the song is comprised of anthemic lyrics covered in a heavy layer of drum machines and pedal fuzz. Also fittingly, the song sounds exactly like something I would've blared from my bedroom when I was 14 (or last week) to piss my mom off.

Or hear the track here.

M.I.A.'s currently untitled third album is due June 29 via N.E.E.T./Interscope.
