The Roots' new record, How I Got Over, features collaborations with the Dirty Projectors and Joanna Newsom. Now, we know the legendary hip-hop group's fascination with the Projectors arose when they played Jimmy Fallon and jammed backstage afterward. The track with the Dirty Projectors—or the women of Dirty Projectors—is more of a vocal intro than a full on rap song.

How the collaboration came about with Newsom came to be is anyone's guess. (They also recorded a track with the Monsters of Folk, but I refuse that band almost categorically.)
