News Portland City Hall to Listen Local

I've never spent any time calling City Hall, but I imagine the hold music to be your typical enjoyable muzak songs. Well, no more!!! Now, thanks to the man with an Isaac Brock portrait on his wall, you can listen to fine local music as you wait on hold.

I'll let the press release do the heavy lifting:

Portland, Ore — Mayor Sam Adams today announced the launch of “Listen Local,” a pilot program that replaces the City’s previous on-hold music with music by Portland musicians. The program seeks to highlight the vibrant, diverse and creative character of Portland to callers near and far and shine a spotlight on local musicians.

“From our entrepreneurs to our artists, what starts in Portland tends to be watched — and bought — around the world,” said Mayor Adams. “Portland’s economic prosperity is being built on our innovation and our creativity. Listen Local showcases both.”

The music is selected by "The Community Listening Panel, a volunteer committee open to all Portlanders," and will be paid a licensing fee via local licensing company Rumblefish. For more info on Listen Local, and how you can get involved, go here.
