There is no better hidden gem to MusicFest NW than the afternoon KEXP shows at the Doug Fir. Let's face it, sometimes a MFNW wristband is just too much for your thin pockets to afford, or perhaps you are like me and just love the experience of sneaking out of the office midday for a concert. Either way, here is a list of the KEXP-sponsored shows at Doug Fir, all of which are totally free, totally all ages, and totally open to the public. Totally!

Thursday September 9
10:30am - Dan Mangan Laura Veirs
12:30pm - Phantogram
2:30pm - Ted Leo & the Pharmacists
4:30pm - The Cave Singers

Friday September 10
10:30am - Blue Giant
12:30pm - Bobby Bare Jr
2:30pm - The Tallest Man on Earth
4:30pm - Thee Oh Sees

@ Ezra: If you were me, when would you try to get to the Ted Leo show to make sure you'd get in?

REMEMBER, YOU ARE ME.

Depends on MY schedule. If I didn't mind hanging out at the Doug Fir at 1:30-1:45pm in the afternoon, I'd do that. But getting there at 2pm is probably fine as well.

I AM YOU! IT FEELS GREAT!

MFNW wristbands are actually very cheap for the amount of shows you can watch. But it's put together by the people at WWeek, so don't you dare say anything to encourage people to actually pay for this amazingly affordable local music festival.

Yes, we really have been cruel in our bountiful coverage of MFNW over the years.

Amazingly affordable or not, I know plenty of people who are out of work that can't afford $65 for anything that is not food or shelter. That's just real talk (as the great R. Kelly would say).

@ Ezra: Wait, I was OK before this (when it was a matter of simple spite), but now you're saying that the Mercury's daily question to itself goes like:

"Should we publish this?"

"Does it concern in any way an amount more than $65? Because our-"

"You're right, never mind."

Good question. There aren't a whole lot of music events with a $65+ price tag, and when there are the price is often mentioned in the coverage. There has been plenty of talk about Pickathon tickets and how that experience justifies the price at the door.

R. Kelly is where I get ALL my inspirations. And "real talk" is what keeps us all with open eyes and honest hearts. Keep it coming.
