Tonight! Tonight In Music: The Clientele, Dale Earnhardt Jr. Jr.

THE CLIENTELE, LAY LOW, TCTB(Doug Fir, 830 E Burnside) A few short months ago, it seemed the Clientele's days on this earth were limited. Thankfully, the purveyors of gorgeous English pop have returned for another American tour, giving us a chance to bask again in their sumptuous melodies. NED LANNAMANN
THE RUMBLE: ONUINU, DALE EARNHARDT JR. JR., NORMAN(Holocene, 1001 SE Morrison) Detroit's Dale Earnhardt Jr. Jr. (Joshua Epstein and Daniel Zott) overcome their ridiculous name—NASCAR pandering (or mocking, even) is never a good look—with an endearing, chilled strain of country-tinged rock. But, thankfully, they're no My Morning Jacket/Band of Horses retreads. DEJJ work on a more intimate scale, as evidenced on their enjoyable Horse Power EP, while also flexing more interesting drum-machined rhythms than those two Americana-rock touchstones. The duo's dual-angelic-voxed songs strike a carefree note without being annoying about it—a difficult feat. A buzz band with a promising future, Dale Earnhardt Jr. Jr. likely won't be playing a small venue like Holocene next time they come through town. DAVE SEGAL
