Sad news for Portland music, Berbati's Pan owner Ted Papaioannou passed away yesterday. Sharing ownership with his brother John, the Papaioannou family immigrated to Portland in 1966, relocating from the village of Berbati in Greece's Peleponesos region. The brothers opened the restaurant side of the business in 1987, with music following in 1995.

His death comes just a few weeks removed from the announcement that the club will cease hosting concerts starting next year.
