Cool-Ass Cover of Captain Beefheart's "Hot Head"

Posted by Dave Segal on Tue, Jan 18, 2011 at 7:05 AM

Olympia's foremost Indonesian-inflected rock band, Arrington De Dionyso's Malaikat dan Singa, recently entered Calvin Johnson's Dub Narcotic studio to cut a version of Captain Beefheart’s “Hot Head,” a classic from his world-beating 1980 LP Doc at the Radar Station. This cover is pretty faithful, as the band nails the obsessive-compulsive friction of the main guitar riff and the oblong stumble of the rhythm, but Arrington adds even more menace to Don Van Vliet's already-scarily intense delivery. Get your free download of it here.

Compare it to the original below, if you get the urge.
