If Talent Borrows and Genius Steals, Microsoft's Ad Makers are Talented Geniuses

Posted by David Schmader on Tue, Feb 1, 2011 at 4:02 PM

The sticky fingers of Bing strike again: Stereogum highlights the eerie similarities between the music of Microsoft's new commercial for the Bing search engine and the Arcade Fire's widely beloved "Wake Up."

You may hear the Arcade Fire track here.

As Jessica at Stereogum writes, "[H]ey, that’s cool! When Arcade Fire licensed “Wake Up” to the Super Bowl, they donated 100% of the profits to Partners In Health to provide medical and supplies to people in Haiti. Maybe they would have done the same thing this time if the agency behind this ad didn’t just hire someone to do a soulless version of 'Wake Up' instead."
