The Best Music-Related April Fool's Prank of 2011

Beta-lactam Ring Records, I love you. On Thursday, the experimental label was anxious to announce a "big release" that they said was "just Insane." On Friday, they revealed the cover to new issue of UK experimental/fringe/avant garde rag The Wire, which featured none other than Insane Clown Posse, with a header "Magnets, Bitches, and Tape Loops: ICP On Their Experimental Side"

But the parody Wire cover was only the beginning of their elaborate April Fool's Joke, with the announcement of the Magnet's, Bitches, and Tape Loops Bitch Box they were going to release in a limited edition of 69. Not only did they record a bunch of fake songs for the Bitch Box (like "Two Juggalos on da Bus (Whut?)" and "Assfarm Dalai Lama"), but they went into some serious detail of the box and the contents inside. "Custom handmade ebony box with ivory inlay (no elephant was spared for this release), solid plastic piano hinges, and hand stained with the finest lube known to mankind. Included in this limited edition is the album Bitches, Magnets and Tape Loops and bonus remix album Magnets, Seriously, How Do They Work?, 31 page booklet of lyrics, photos, tons of dick jokes, a coupon for a free bottle of Faygo, a miniature hatchet, makeup kit, official Juggalo membership card with discounts on merchandise and a signed and numbered certificate in what we think is blood but actually is bar-b-que sauce." It even had it's own catalog number. The cost? $999,999.99. It was all too good to be true.

On a day when people said they were pregnant, gay, seriously injured, or moving away (I just posted an animated gif of myself that said "watch me regurgitate a ping pong ball"), Beta-lactam Ring gets the prize for the most thought out and well-executed April Fool's joke of 2011.
