We've got a pair of tickets to give away to the New Multitudes show at the Crystal Ballroom on Friday, March 9.
"Wait, wait, wait," you say. "Crystal Ballroom? That's a mighty big room. I've never heard of these New Multitudes fellows. Just who are they, anyway?"
Glad you asked. It's the new group—a supergroup, if you will—made up of Jay Farrar (Son Volt, Uncle Tupelo), Will Johnson (Centro-matic, South San Gabriel), Anders Parker (Varnaline, Gob Iron), and Yim Yames (Yy Yorning Yacket, Yonsters of Yolk). They've just recorded and released an album titled, you guessed it, New Multitudes, in which they do the Mermaid Avenue thing and compose new music for some of the unrecorded lyrics left behind by Woody Guthrie, who composed scads of songs but didn't always write the music down or get the chance to record them, leaving just lyrics behind.
Team Coco, of all places, is streaming the whole album, so you can go over there and check it out. Then send an email to this address with "New Multitudes" in the subject line for a chance to win a pair of tickets to the show. Please include your first and last name in the email. You'll need to come downtown to the Mercury office during business hours to pick up the tickets, so please don't enter if you aren't able to do that. This contest will close Monday, March 5 at noon. Good luck!
[UPDATE: This contest is closed and the winner has been notified.]
