Another week, another Mercury music section that contains nothing about either Meat Loaf or his impersonator, who's being sued for "cyber-squatting."

This year's PDX Pop Now! festival kicks off tonight with three days of all-ages, all-local, all-free fun. There are a ton of great bands playing, including Chrome Wings (pictured above), whose PPN live set on Saturday at 2:45 pm will reportedly be their last ever.

Web-only bonus article! Australian Yaygon Lamagaia adopted the much-easier-to-remember stage name Kalya Scintilla, and combines world music sounds with intense, thought-provoking electronics.

Plus a big gulp of Up & Coming shows.
