Jens Lekman at the Aladdin Theater, Saturday, November 3

Posted by Courtney Ferguson on Mon, Nov 5, 2012 at 2:29 PM

Swedish troubadour Jens Lekman is a dorky baseball-hat-wearing cutie. Photographer Minh Tran was at the show to prove it. It felt like the Aladdin crowd was a little hesitant to warm up to Jens' new work from I Know What Love Isn't, which dominated the first 30 minutes or so of the show, but once he broke out the back catalog, Portland got to their feet. After some prodding and some crowd favorites from his last album, Night Falls over Kortedala, there was dancing in the aisles. The black-and-white clad band—a mix of Swedish and American musicians—sounded great, while Jens was in fine form, talking and expounding on stories from his songs, like a longer version of pretending to be Nina's boyfriend in "Postcard to Nina." Throw in some pretty cool lighting effects and a closing cover of Nicolette Larson's version of Neil Young's "Lotta Love" by Jens and the whole Taken by Trees crew, and it was stellar show.

Lots more of Minh Tran's great photos of Jens Lekman and openers Taken by Trees after the jump!
