PDX Pop Now!
are releasing their annual double-disc compilation album at Backspace on Friday, June 14
at a celebration featuring music by Sapient
and others. A mainstay of Portland music, the PDX Pop compilation is the most effective snapshot of the city's music scene from year to year, showing remarkable stylistic diversity among its tracks while remaining a coherent and always-fun listen. The compilation will be available for purchase for a measly $5, which includes a digital download. The release show at Backspace is when they'll also announce the lineup for 2013's PDX Pop Now! festival, which is taking place July 19-21 at a new location this year.
This year, PPN will be at the ODOT Eastside Lot at SE Water and Salmon, which is that vacant lot right by Bunk Bar. The festival will be entirely outdoors, with two outdoor stages, a food court that will be under shade, a Rigsketball tournament, plus an activity area with games and a street fair. It sounds like PDX Pop's 10th year will be its biggest, and will also capitalize on Portland's perfect summer weather by having all bands play outside.PDX Pop Now compilation release party, Backspace, 115 NW 5th, Fri June 14, 8 pm, $8, all ages
