Video Vriday! Cafeteria Dance Fever, the Memories, Sapient & More

Posted by Ned Lannamann on Fri, Jun 7, 2013 at 3:50 PM

Vroom vroom, it's another Video Vriday!

Cafeteria Dance Fever makes their ignominious return with this video for "Night of the Lepus," a gently swooning romantic slow-dance number that's perfect for prom. But wait, what's this? In a twist that's Carrie meets the rabbit scene from Monty Python and the Holy Grail, all goes horribly awry. This video was directed by Brett Roberts and is hopefully not the last we've heard/seen from Cafeteria Dance Fever, who were kinda sorta breaking up last time we checked.

We mentioned the Memories' new joint Love Is the Law, due for a fresh, crisp re-release on Burger Records later this summer. Here's a video for "I Remember You," a beachy, sunny tune with an appropriately beachy, sunny video directed by Abigail Bean. It tells the tale of, among other things, one man's love for a small inflatable dolphin (or is it a porpoise??) who goes on to break his heart by hooking up with Unkle Funkle. The Memories play with the Woolen Men and Sauna at Record Room on Tuesday, June 18.

Sapient's latest video is for "Roman Candle," another inventive and unorthodox marriage of pop-rock and hiphop. This has all the trappings of a rap video—albeit Portland style—but instead of the party-hearty atmosphere, this video drops in some world weariness with resignation and a sense of irony. Let the good times roll. Sapient plays the PDX Pop Now! compilation release party at Backspace next Friday, June 14.

Videos from Sam Humans, Unknown Mortal Orchestra, Bombs into You, and the Chicharones after the jump!

Our pals at Banana Stand Media released two new live albums this week, one for the Morals and one for Sam Humans. Here's a video from Sam Humans' performance, which went down at the Banana Stand's secret bunker on September 29 of last year. This clip for "Wee See Colors," shot by Collective-47, sees Humans in full one-man-band glory. You can get the new Sam Humans and Morals releases over at Banana Stand.

This is a fantastic clip of Unknown Mortal Orchestra from NPR, capturing the Portland threesome in their whirling psychedelic best. They perform "No Need for a Leader" at Washington, DC's Rock and Roll Hotel, and it's far out.

Portland group Bombs into You have been prepping their upcoming album, due out later this summer, but here's a video for "Save You," a moody, atmospheric track that conjoins skittering electronic beats with furry guitar riffage. Bombs into You play their first Portland show in more than six months this Sunday, June 8, at East End with William Ingrid and Happy Noose.

I'll leave you on an annoying note with this incredibly long new ad for a Samsung phone—actually it's described as a "musical short film." I have received approximately 1,000 PR emails about this video, which has music by the Chicharones of Portland, featuring their song "Hi, Hey, Hello," The Chicharones themselves are actually in this video, often in the background wearing a collection of silly outfits, but it's understandable if you are too distracted to spot them—that new Samsung Galaxy S4 is DAZZLING. (Enjoy that money, boys.)
