Video Vriday! 42 Ford Prefect & More

Posted by Ned Lannamann on Fri, Jun 28, 2013 at 3:57 PM

Vinnie Vincent, it's Video Vriday! We already posted some new videos from Hausu and Alela Diane this week, but here's some more new stuff for your eyes and ears.

It's hot and your brain is overheating. Throw it into a lower gear with this goofy goodtime video from 42 Ford Prefect. The track's called "These Are Not the Waves You're Looking For," and the video includes a surfing Vader and a go-go-dancin' Stormtrooper. What more do you need to know? 42 Ford Prefect's heavy surfpunk goes along great with this delightfully lo-budge video; it's certain to mildly irritate George Lucas. 42 Ford Prefect play East End tomorrow night, Saturday June 29, along with Dinner for Wolves and Thrones.

Is your brain still turned off? Good. Don't switch it back on for this next video, from a Portland "urban alternative" group who calls itself Spittin Images. This video depicts a rooftop gathering with the Images and some very lucky ladies; the track itself features guest rappers Prince R.O.B. and Ms. Moniz, and it will not tax your brain one iota. "Portland Girls" includes the sterling refrain "Portland girls, Portland girls, Portland girls/There's just somethin' so sexy about Portland girls," and each member of the crew takes turns rapping over the track's easy-going party beat. I don't know if this video will strike your fancy at all, but I felt obligated to let you know that it exists.

Let's keep this rooftop theme going. Here's a live video, shot earlier this month, of Scout Niblett playing the rooftop garden of the Museum Ludwig in Cologne, Germany. That's the city's cathedral in the background—quite an astounding backdrop. The Portland based songwriter plays "Can't Fool Me Now," off her recently released new album on Drag City, It's Up to Emma. There's another video from this performance as well; go here to check it out. Scout Niblett plays Mississippi Studios on Saturday, August 24.

More Vriday after the jump!

Here's the latest from Cool Nutz, the video for "The Trap," a track from his latest album Bars (you can download it for free here). Shot around Portland—spot the Oregonian delivery mailbox and weep for what we've lost—Monsieur Nutz picks several eyecatching Portland locales, although SE Foster bar the Trap is not one of them. Cool Nutz is currently on the Summer of Strange hiphop tour, with Krizz Kaliko, Mayday and Stevie Stone. This video for "The Trap" was directed by Beejan, a fine Portland emcee in his own right.

We'll close today with a short film—or longform video—from Yardsss, a project from Southerly's Krist Krueger. The 27-minute film is called Foma, and it's meant to accompany Yardsss' debut album of the same name, which comes out next Tuesday. Shot over a weekend by Krueger and Jon Garcia, they made this with a homemade point-of-view camera. There are lots of Portland sights to see, with Yardsss' evocative instrumental music backing it all.
