Summertime Mixtapes for Your Listenin' Ears

Posted by Ned Lannamann on Fri, Jul 12, 2013 at 10:30 AM

It's summer, it's hot, and you're officially allowed to switch off your brain's attention span for the next three months. That means there's no better time for some cool new mixtapes, and there are a couple new ones out there for your listenin' ears.

rigsketballcomp.jpg

First, check out the new Rigsketball 2013 Comp, which contains tracks from all 32 bands participating in this year's Rigsketball tournament. (Rigsketball is the one-of-a-kind local basketball competition in which local bands compete on a specially made basketball hoop bolted onto the van of And And And drummer Bim Ditson.) The compilation is over at Bandcamp where you can pay-what-you-will for a download, and Citrus Tapes has also manufactured 100 physical (and collectible) copies. In the meantime, check out an interview with Ditson over on Impose, and listen to a brand new Grandparents track below. The first round of Rigsketball will take place next weekend at PDX Pop Now!, with the finals taking place before an awesome-sounding free show at Holocene on Wednesday, July 24.

Secondly, local wooden sunglasses purveyor Shwood has a new mixtape for these warm days, a 10-track compilation that collects tracks from the likes of Radiation City, Unknown Mortal Orchestra, the Thermals, Pure Bathing Culture, and more. It's all hits and no filler. You can download that for free over on Experiment with Nature; I'll post a streaming version after the jump, too.

Lastly, Tender Loving Empire has announced the sixth volume of their annual Friends & Friends of Friends compilation series. That one's not out yet, but it's due on September 3, just in time for the tail end of summer. Take a look at the cover and the impressive tracklisting below.
