Video Vriday! Your Rival, Barna Howard, Tigerface & More

Posted by Ned Lannamann on Fri, Jun 13, 2014 at 12:02 PM

We've got your very first glimpse of the rad new Your Rival video, which was animated entirely by Casey Jarman of Party Damage Records (Your Rival's label) on his Galaxy Note 3. It features cameos by Elvis, Axl, Joan, and others, and lots of other general weirdness. Hope you like bleeding eyes! "Hadley" comes from the new Your Rival EP, the terrific Your Rival USA, which is available as a pay-what-you-want download with 20% of the money benefiting XRAY.fm. (Full disclosure: the band's frontman, Mo Troper, is a frequent Mercury contributor.) Your Rival is playing a show with Sabonis on July 5 at a new all-ages space on NE Sandy, across from the Hollywood Theatre.

We've also got the exclusive premiere of Barna Howard's new video, for "Timber, Nails and Tears," from the Portland singer/songwriter's self-titled debut album. Nick Farago directed this one, using found footage to color Howard's song, a letter home from a soldier at war. Tomorrow night (Saturday, June 14), Howard debuts his brand-new live band with a show at Alberta Street Pub; he'll be joined by Lewi Longmire, Birger Olsen, Ryan Spellman, and Jason Montgomery, for what will be his first-ever full-band show.

Hey, we're going premiere-crazy this week on Video Vriday! Here's yet another exclusive first look, for Tigerface's video for "Leaving (For a While)," from their recent On the Beach debut EP. The song is also included on this year's just-released PDX Pop Now! compilation album. For the video, Tigerface assembled what they refer to as an "atmospheric, minimalist collage. Tigerface plays a show at the Firkin Tavern next week, on Friday, June 20 with Levon's Helmet and Jesus Miranda.

More Video Vriday after the jump, with videos from Serge Severe, the Hugs, and Logan Lynn!

Check the new one from Serge Severe, for his track "The Bottom Line," from his recent EP with 5th Sequence, entitled Boom Bap & Bars Vol. 1. The Portland emcee shot this with director Sam Lingle, and it's a simple, straightforward clip with Severe in an industrial, graffiti-covered landscape. Severe just wrapped up the Welcome to Dillaville tour with members of the Pharcyde and Slum Village paying tribute to J. Dilla.

Here's the latest from the Hugs, and their video for "Every Way," a sparkling, catchy gem from their recent album Love Led You Here. Meanwhile the video, one might say, unleashes their inner Warrant; it was directed by Sean Allen and features Carly Kingston as "The Cool Chick" of the song's lyrics. The Hugs play Friday, June 13 (hey, that's tonight!) at Habesha with Oh Darling and Noble Firs.

Last up: Just in time for Pride weekend, here's Logan Lynn's latest video, for his tune "Radio Silent" from Tramp Stamps and Birthmarks. Lynn (who, full disclosure, is also a Mercury contributor) shot this with filmmaker Runn Shayo over the course of a summer tour last year with fellow queer artists Big Dipper, Conquistador, and others, and the video features clips from shows across the country and snapshots from life on the road.
